COMPARE · US → MEXICO · PESITO IS PRE-LAUNCH

Pesito vs Remitly.
The honest comparison.

Remitly is one of the most successful corridor-focused remittance products of the last decade, public company, ~$5B in annual transfer volume, dozens of corridors beyond Mexico. Pesito is a smaller, newer, pre-launch product being purpose-built for US → Mexico. This page is the line-by-line comparison neither of us would write about ourselves: where Remitly wins, where Pesito's planned model differs, where it's a tie, and which one fits which use case. Every Pesito figure below is planned launch pricing or a planned feature, not a live service.

Where Remitly wins.

  • It exists today. Remitly is live nationwide; Pesito is pre-launch and not yet available anywhere. If you need to send money this week, Remitly can do it and Pesito can't.
  • Corridor breadth. Remitly serves 170+ corridors. Pesito is being built for the US and Mexico only, in both directions.
  • Scale and brand recognition. Remitly is a NASDAQ-listed company with hundreds of millions in marketing spend. If your family asks "have you heard of them?", Remitly is the safe answer.
  • On-time delivery promise. Remitly refunds the fee if your transfer arrives late. Pesito is pre-launch and does not offer a comparable guarantee.
  • 24/7 multilingual phone support. Remitly's customer service has dedicated phone lines. Pesito's planned support channels are in-app and email.
  • Cash-funded sends (with the new tax). Remitly accepts cash funding at certain retail partners. After January 1, 2026 those funded sends incur the 1% federal excise tax, but the option exists. Pesito's planned funding methods are debit card and bank transfer (ACH) only, no cash funding.

Where Pesito's planned model differs.

  • $0 and 0% FX on the Pesito network (planned). Sending with Pesito is planned to cost $0 at any amount, to a $PesitoID, a phone number or a claim link, whether the send is domestic (US → US or Mexico → Mexico) or international (US → Mexico). A standard withdrawal to a Mexican bank by SPEI is $0 too. Remitly charges per-transfer regardless.
  • No Pesito FX markup, as a design commitment. We're building Pesito with no exchange-rate markup: our reference is a mid-market rate average at quote time, and any rate margin would appear as a separate, disclosed line item, never hidden inside the rate. Remitly builds a 1 to 2% FX markup into the rate.
  • The recipient gets an app (planned). Remitly's recipient gets a pickup code or a bank deposit. Pesito's recipient would get a wallet, hold pesos, send to others, withdraw to a bank for $0 or cash out at OXXO when needed (planned features, subject to change and regulatory approval). Identity-first vs. transaction-first.
  • $PesitoID handle. One address designed to work on both sides of the border, so repeat sends to the same person don't mean re-entering recipient details.
  • Price transparency. Pesito's posture is to charge $0 on the Pesito network and disclose any rate margin as its own line item instead of folding costs into the rate. Before every transfer you'll see the exchange rate and exactly what your recipient gets, as US federal law requires (CFPB Remittance Transfer Rule).
  • Hold pesos in-app (planned). Pesito recipients would be able to keep a peso balance without re-converting. Remitly is transactional only.

Remitly figures cited from Remitly's own public pricing pages. Last checked April 2026 (dataset date); verify current pricing with Remitly before you send. Pesito column shows planned launch pricing, not yet available; final pricing is always shown in the app before you pay and may change before launch. A standard withdrawal to the recipient's own bank is $0. Your recipient's bank may charge its own fees, and foreign taxes may apply. A store's cash-out fee, if any, is passed through at cost and shown before you confirm.

Which one is right for you.

Pick Remitly if: you need to send today: Pesito is pre-launch; your family expects pickup at a specific retail partner that isn't OXXO; you send to corridors beyond Mexico; you want the deepest possible US licensing footprint and 24/7 phone support; or if your recipient actively prefers a transactional model (no app, no balance, just the cash).

Join the Pesito waitlist if: you send to Mexico recurrently and the per-transfer fee + FX markup compound; your recipient is willing to install an app and would prefer holding a balance; you like the design commitment of $0 on the Pesito network and no Pesito FX markup with any margin disclosed as a line item; or you want the $PesitoID handle to do the addressing instead of repeating recipient details every time. Planned features, subject to change and regulatory approval.

Frequently asked.

Is Pesito cheaper than Remitly?
Pesito is pre-launch, so there's no live send to compare yet. Pesito's planned launch pricing is $0 and 0% FX on the Pesito network, domestic or international, to a $PesitoID, a phone number or a claim link, with no FX spread as a design commitment: the reference is a mid-market rate average, and any rate margin would appear as a separate, disclosed line item. In practice: send $25 and all $25 gets converted; send $200 or $2,000 and all of it gets converted, with no Pesito fee at any amount. A standard withdrawal to a Mexican bank by SPEI is $0 too. Remitly Express is around $3.99 plus a 1 to 2% FX markup; Remitly Economy is cheaper on fee but slower. Final Pesito pricing is always shown in the app before you pay and may change before launch.
Does Remitly support OXXO?
Yes. Remitly delivers to OXXO, Elektra, BBVA Bancomer cash, and others. With Pesito, the recipient gets the money in their Pesito account and can withdraw it: to a bank by SPEI, $0 at standard speed, or as cash at OXXO, with the store's fee, if any, passed through at cost and shown first. Planned features, subject to change and regulatory approval.
Does Remitly's on-time guarantee matter?
It's a real trust mechanic: if your transfer is late, they refund the fee. Pesito is pre-launch and doesn't offer a comparable guarantee.
Is Pesito available in all US states?
Pesito is pre-launch and not yet available anywhere. When it launches, transfers will be subject to identity verification, corridor availability, limits, and compliance review. Join the waitlist to be notified.
Does the 1% remittance tax hit either provider?
The 1% excise (effective January 1, 2026), a federal tax and not a Pesito fee (Pesito's planned price is $0 to send), applies only to cash, money-order, and cashier's-check funding. Remitly's digital-funded sends are exempt; its cash-funded option is subject to it. Pesito is being designed so transfers would fall outside the excise, because its planned funding methods are debit card and ACH only. This is general information, not tax advice.
